Now that the drama over the First Gentleman’s heart condition is settling down, it’s interesting to note that one particular consequence is that Filipinos are now more aware about these kinds of medical conditions.

And then I remember that, way back during Estrada’s impeachment trial, the same thing more or less happened, with everyone suddenly becoming Juan de Abugado, ‘objecting’ here, ’sustaining’ there, and ‘overruling’ everywhere.

It’s weird, but it appears that the best way to spread information about an important issue in the Philippines seems to be to get some random celebrity and/or public figure (because yes, Mr. Macapagal-Arroyo, being the First Gentleman does make you a public figure), get them somehow involved with some hot topic of the day (ala ‘It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia‘) and let the press eat it up.

Think about it. The millions of pesos being spent (or NOT being spent, as the case may be) on information campaigns on abortion, birth control, tax laws, immigration, can be saved if someone like, say, Kris Aquino gets her fallopian tubes tied and having it be all over the news the same way her love triangles always are. Imagine, the Catholic Church won’t be able to stop the dissemination of information regarding birth control because it’s become chismis - showbiz news. People won’t be able to resist it!

Not to mention, there’s the added benefit of having a Kris Aquino who will no longer have the opportunity to contaminate the collective gene pool with her genetic material.

It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia is a sitcom about the 4 twenty-somethings who always get into some kind of trouble pertaining to one particular “hot” issue. One episode for example, dealt with gun control by having the group buy a gun to protect their bar, with the episode ending with one of them getting shot by the gun.

I’m saying celebrities should get into some kind of trouble pertaining to one particular “hot” issue as well, and not just have the very boring and very cliche love triangle all the time.
